THOMAS MACRI

On Wednesday, September 1, at Vista Park Lodge, Tom passed peacefully at the age of 93. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Norma, son Brian (Nancy McQuade), son Don (Patty Hawkins), and daughter Lori; grandsons Dave (Lynne) and Ken (Cindy), sister-in-law, Betty Cochrane, and many cousins, friends, and dear nieces and nephews who have kept in close touch.
He was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Mary; brother Ron, and sister Jean, their spouses and by Norma's brothers and sisters.
Tom grew up in the North End and was involved with music from a very young age, beginning with the Sea Cadets band. He played in a number of Winnipeg dance bands and taught music in Winnipeg and Flin Flon. He joined the RCHA military band and finished his career as a member of RCAF band at No. 7 Wing. During the latter part of his life he was unable to hear music due to severe hearing deficit, and this was a great loss to him.
Tom and Norma met at Clear Lake where he worked at Danceland. They married in 1951, and over the years their home was shared by many nieces and nephews who became part of the family.
Tom's family was the centre of his life and he followed their accomplishments with much pride. Tom and Norma enjoyed 63 years at their home in St. Vital. Tom was a proud homeowner and gardener and his heritage tomatoes grew above the backyard fence, providing many jars of spaghetti sauce. He was also fond of animals, especially his cat, Jamie. The backyard was a sanctuary for all birds and animals with fresh water year-round and a step stool for squirrels and the neighbour's cat so that they could reach it. In 2018 Tom and Norma moved to Dakota House where he enjoyed three years before moving to Vista Park Lodge.
Many thanks to the staff and friends at Dakota House and special thanks to the staff at Vista Park Lodge for their care and concern during his final days.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
If friends so wish, donations to an animal shelter, Central Speech and Hearing Clinic, 1325 Markham Road, Winnipeg, or a charity of your choice, would be greatly appreciated.
