MANITOBA CONTRACT BRIDGE LEAGUE
MINUTES OF MEETING AUGUST 28, 2018

Present: Unit 181 Board Members: Shirley Galler, Barry Wolk, John Hindle, Ray Hornby, Marsha Kimelman, Ann Wolfman, Marielle Brentnall, Doug Fisher, Gerri Hewitt,
Missing Dave West, Bob Kuz, Deloris Ankrom, Marlene Pontifex
Also, in attendance Bill Treble, Carolyn Douglas, Jenna Tichon, Sekhar

President John Hindle chaired the meeting. Called to order 5.00 PM
Quorum declared.

1. Minutes of Meeting July 17, 2018 approved as circulated. Moved by Doug Fisher, seconded by Ann Wolfman Carried.

2. Business arising out of the minutes
Blue Book essentially completed. Ads are still being received, will be printed shortly. After the completed book is printed a master copy will be available by the computer. Marsha Kimelman will maintain updates.
Lease dispute for previous premises, this has been settled out of court to the satisfaction of both parties.
Golden Age recognition from ACBL Carolyn to contact ACBL
Hearing Aids. These are used hearing aids that can be adapted for use by children with impaired hearing. Information will be posted on the web site and Joan Clasen has volunteered to deliver any that are dropped off at the Facility.
COPC qualifying games will not be held/ .

4. Presidents Report
Directors Course will be held on 5 Sunday afternoons commencing on September23 at 2.30 Pm-5PM Other dates September 30. October 27. November 4 and 11. Terry and Jenna will give an overview
Current Directors refresher evening will be held September 27, at 6.30 PM Alexa and Barry will facilitate.
Learn to Play Bridge in one day will be held Saturday September 15. John to present.

Coffee and Snacks served at Bridge Games are a topic that leads to lots of discussion. Everyone has a different view on this matter. We must curtail the amount of coffee served, and there must be no wastage. We have had to remit more money to Soul Sanctuary to cover the extra coffee we consumed in the past year than what was allowed in the contract. Discussion followed. This matter will again be brought up.
John will be in contact with Allison for more info on the number of cups in a box of coffee in the machine. Directors are encouraged to announce at their games the one cup policy.
With the move to the upper floor imminent?? We need to be aware of the transport of coffee and other items to the upper level, Doug will check into serviceable carts to be used. .

5.Special Events
October Regional Tournament it is suggested that there be a special table for registration set up for the 199 ers games. To welcome them and assist them in enjoying the experience of a Regional. Jim and Keran to assist. Gerri will be at the Registration Desk.

6. Treasurer’s Report
GST for the years 2014-2017 have been accepted and processed as filed. Recap of financial position was reported.

7. Club Owners
Bill raised concern over the Duplimate Machine. The small blue roller must be cleaned by anyone operating this a tooth brush is provided for this. We will arrange to have regular maintenance on this machine.

8. Membership
Mentoring. Program in place.
Social Event. To be held Thursday November 15 time to be announced. Marcia volunteered to assist.
A booth will be set up at the Active Living Expo October 1 Ann to coordinate.

9.Long Term Planning
Dave West was unable to attend this meeting. He advised that there will be a campaign starting shortly. Will report at the next meeting

10.New Business
Concern was raised that the ACBL Policy of a surcharge charged at Sectional and Regional Tournaments is extremely unfair for Units of our size.
Motion Unit 181 Manitoba Contract Bridge League Inc. feels the policy of this sur charge is counterproductive to attract new members and lapsed members to attend tournaments. Moved by Doug Fisher, Seconded by Gerri Hewitt. Carried
Shirley will send this motion to Paul Janiki District 2 Rep to ACBL for consideration

11. In Camera session held.
