MANITOBA CONTRACT BRIDGE LEAGUE
MINUTES OF MEETING SEPTEMBER 25, 2018

Present: Unit 181 Board Members: Shirley Galler, Barry Wolk, John Hindle, Ray Hornby, Marsha Kimelman, Ann Wolfman, Marielle Brentnall, Doug Fisher, Deloris Ankrom, Bob Kuz, Dave West

President John Hindle chaired the meeting. Called to order 5.00 PM
Quorum declared.

1. Minutes of Meeting August 28, 2018 approved as circulated. Moved by Deloris Ankrom, Seconded by Marsha Kimelman Carried.

2. Business arising out of the minutes
Blue Book at the Printers. Advertising and Donations were received. The board expressed thanks to Marsha Kimelman for a job well done on the Blue Book,
Golden Age recognition from ACBL tabled to next meeting.
Hearing Aids. Any drop off will be forwarded to Dr. Garber at the Health Sciences. Joan Clasen to provide further info.
Surcharge The board has expressed their concern about the extra fees assessed for non-members and new players at tournaments. An email was sent to Paul Janicki District 2 Rep to the ACBL Board of Director’s ,awaiting his response. .

3. Correspondence.
Soul Sanctuary reported lift is 100 % completed and are just awaiting final inspection.
October 12, 2018 there will be a Fire Alarm testing 8AM to 12 Noon.
Friday game at 12.15 will be run as usual. Any lessons and Supervised Play on Friday morning will be cancelled.
October 4th afternoon game will be in the Gym.

4. Presidents Report
Directors Course began on September23 10 people in attendance. Terry Visentin gave the first lecture. Manuals that are required are available. to be down loaded from the ACBL.
Learn to Play Bridge in one day was held Saturday September 15. 35 people attended. New manual was effective, There needs to be a clear directive for volunteers who assist at this event. Tiered times will be arranged for the next LHTPB January 19,2019. Require some to come at 8.30 AM to assist in set up and some to remain for clean up after 3.00 PM. This session has already paid dividends Some attendees have already registered to take lessons, while others will join the Supervised Play. John Hindle did the presentation and the board expressed thanks to him.
Motion: Moved by Doug Fisher, Seconded by Ann Wolfman that the Unit purchase a LCD projector. Carried. John to arrange for the purchase.
Coffee and Snacks served at Bridge Games. We have a black cart with rails that would be suitable to bring coffee upstairs in the lift. When we are in the upper level permanently we will assess the pros and cons.

5.Special Events
October Regional Tournament is all organised. Still require caddies for Thursday and Sunday. Jason will provide the food. Sign up lists will be at the club to enable the numbers required for the catering. There will be a table for the 0-99 players to register and to welcome them to the Regional
NAP Final will be held October 28 2018 at Kirkfield Westwood Bridge Club 2 session Game $25.00 entry fee includes lunch. 10.00 AM start time.

6. Treasurer’s Report
GST for years 2014-2017 are accepted. 2018 will be filed by the deadline/
Recap of financial position was reported.
Budget 2019 preliminary will be available by next meeting for input. Every Committee Chair should have input into the 9budget.

7. Club Owners
No concerns.

8. Membership
A booth will be set up at the Active Living Expo October 1 Ann to coordinate. Plans are to give out 3 free plays, for regular games also 2 free to attend a LHTPB session.
There will be a Social Game date to be announced. Marsha Kimelman will co-ordinate.

9.Long Term Planning
Dave West announced plans are in place. He then passed out pledge forms to the Board of Directors to give their pledges to kick off this campaign. Brochures are being printed to bring forward this campaign to our Unit 181 Members. This campaign will also be directed to the public. Note the Board of Directors of Unit 181 are 100% in favour of this campaign to allow us to have our own facility. Seniors Grant is a possibility for fund raising next application date is June 2019.

10.New Business
Teachers of Bridge are requested to complete a survey. This will be forwarded to them. This give the Board feedback on the lessons, With this it will enable the Board to have imput into the quality of the lessons, and also assist the teachers.
